Mid-Century Pen Moves, and “How to Add a Graphic Element to Your Calligraphy” with Sue Greenseth - April 15 & 16, 2023
This workshop will cover two subjects. The main focus will be to learn a few unique and whimsical hands that became popular in the 1970s and ‘80s. Inspired by calligrapher and typographer Arthur Baker, these letter shapes profoundly influenced the work of many calligraphers at the time.
Students will practice steeply turning the pen to create interesting letter strokes. Practical applications for the use of these hands, at both large and small sizes will be covered. Through study and practice of these unique shapes, you may be inspired to take your own lettering to a new level.
Adding a Graphic Element to Your Calligraphy – Choosing the right hand, ink colors, and creating contrasts is usually all that is necessary to convey emotion in calligraphy. But sometimes an illustration can enhance your work. During the last portion of the workshop, Sue will share her tips and tricks to determine when to add a graphic element, how to choose a graphic, how to determine its size in contrast to the lettering, and the look, feel and placement of the graphic.
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
The annual CLAS Annual General Meeting will take place on Zoom at 4:00 pm April 15, after the Saturday class.
